New Orleans Chicory Coffee
New Orleans coffee is a rich very strong dark roasted blend of many different beans mixed with roasted ground chicory root. The dark roasting and special blend of beans gives the coffee its strength and bit; the chicory gives it the thickness and special flavor. The coffee made by New Orleans coffee blenders is not available elsewhere. Proportions of coffee to chicory vary considerably, Union Coffee and Chicory and CDM with Chicory are the heartiest blends. French Market and Luzianne with Chicory the lighter ones are all easily found in market in and around New Orleans.
Make the same way you do your regular coffee with a drip coffee pot.
Just use some of the so called blends, I have seen in some stores, that say they have Chicory Coffee in them. (I have seen those in that discount store, you know which one) but they are the lighter chicory blends or a lighter roast packed for "export."
Again, you will not be able to find or duplicate the best New Orleans coffee elsewhere.
If you do not like strong coffee, then use same amount as you do of your regular coffee.
But if you want it New Orleans Style, double the amount of Chicory Coffee.
With a few modifications Chemex and other drip coffee makers using paper filters will produce excellent New Orleans style coffee, as will the new electric drip coffee makers.
