"Mid Air Collision"

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace always in every way.    (2 Thessalonians 3:16)

On April 1, 2001, a U. S. Navy reconnaissance aircraft, piloted by Lieutenant Shane Osborn, was struck by a Chinese F-8 fighter over international waters in the South China Sea. Osborn and his crew of 24 managed an emergency landing, but they were seized by Chinese authorities.

Earlier this year, speaking at a Prayer Breakfast in Beatrice, Nebraska, Osborne spoke of that event, saying that for twelve days he was subjected to extreme sleep deprivation, isolation, interrogation, and accusation. It was prayer, he said, that kept him going; and during that time, he discovered his faith in Christ in a new way.

Now, he said, "It’s hard to explain the feeling, the calmness, that believing in Jesus Christ brings to me in everyday life. I know that as long as I have Him by my side, I can face any challenges."

You may not experience a midair collision over China, but we all face turbulence in life; and occasionally we’re forced to bail out or crash land. But we can experience the calmness and inner peace that Christ gives every day. He’s the Prince of our Peace. The peace of God is that eternal calm which lies far too deep in the praying, trusting soul to be reached by any external disturbances.
