November 11th Devotion
I hope that each of you had a good
week. I rested from the driving trip home from Louisiana. Yes, I will have to
admit that I found out that I am not as young as I use to be. When I was
younger I could
have driven it, and then went and played ball. (Yes, I did play on a soft ball
team, and I was pretty good). But now I have to just about do nothing for a few
days after I drive it now. Sixteen hours is a long way to
drive.
At the end of the devotion there
will be a little test for you to take that will remind you of, how age is
catching up on some of us. Ha Ha
I am studying in Philippians, so the
devotion will come from there for a couple more days.

2:2)
2. "then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose." Seek to maintain unity with other believers in your thoughts, attitudes, love, and spirit, and purpose. Recognize that a separatist "right to one's own opinion" is not a biblical teaching. Repent and surrender such arrogance for the sake of unity in the body of Christ. (Philippians 2: 5-11) 5. "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 6. Who, being in very nature God, 7. but made himself nothing, 8. And being found in appearance as a man, 9. Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
10. that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
11. and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
12. Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13. for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose." Adopt Christ's attitude of unselfness, servant-hood, humility, and obedience. Commit yourself to obedience. Allow God's work of salvation to have its full work in you. Recognize that your whole Christian life, from being willing to doing it is all God's work. (Philippians 2: 20-21) 20. "I have no one else like him, who takes a genuine interest in your welfare. 21. For everyone looks out for his own interests, not those of Jesus Christ." Understand that being concerned for the interest of Jesus Christ means being concerned selflessly for the welfare of others. (Philippians 4: 8-9) 8. "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you." Determine your own thought life. Do not let others do it for you. Cause your mind to dwell on those things that bring peace to you and glory to God. Follow holy leadership as a pattern for life and faith. Discipleship is apprenticeship to the life of Jesus, focusing on Christ as Mentor and Model. Jesus chose to lay aside His divine form and adopt the lowly form of man. Even as a Man He did not choose wealth, power, or worldly position, but came as a servant, and died the death of a criminal. In everything He humbled Himself, trusting God to exalt and establish His name. Discipleship may call the Christian to choose to lay aside rights much valued in our culture, and to accept the life-role assigned by God. This role may not appear to be a place of acknowledgment, but trust God to choose how to establish and promote you.
