(Philippians
1: 27)
27. "Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel
of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my
absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending as one
man for the faith of the gospel."
(Philippians 2: 3-4)
3. "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility
consider others better than yourselves.
4. Each of you should look not only
to your own interests, but also to the interests of others."
Those who observe a godly life see what God is like. This is one of the
church's primary functions. Godliness avoids anything that brings disunity
or division in the church. It lives unselfishly, making others the primary
focus of its concerns. Conduct your life as a
gospel sermon for observers of your life. Develop the heart attitude of
unity. Live unselfishly! Turn away from any
selfish ambition or conceited attitudes.
Esteem others as being more important and more worthy than you are.
There is a Poem I will now add that many of you have read before. It is a
little different in content. A few extra lines have been added by Mr.
Guest, but It is so true.
We wonder why we have visitors come to church and then they do not come back
anymore? Maybe it is the way they are seeing us church people act.

I'd Rather See A Sermon
Written By: Edgar Guest
"I'd rather see a sermon than hear one any day;
I'd rather one should walk with me than merely tell the way.
The eye is a better pupil, more willing than the ear;
Fine counsel is confusing, but example is always clear,
And the best of all the preachers are the men who live their creeds,
For to see good put in action is what everybody needs.
I can soon learn how to do it if you will let me see it done;
I can watch your hand in action, but your tongue too fast may run.
And the lectures you deliver may be very wise and true,
But I'd rather get my lesson by observing what you do
For I may misunderstand you and the high advice you give,
But there is no misunderstanding how you act and how you live.
What I see a deed of kindness, I am eager to be kind.
When a weaker brother stumbles, and a strong man stands behind
Just to see if he can help him, then the wish grows strong in me
To become as big and thoughtful as I know that friend to be.
And all travelers can witness that the best of guides today
Is not the one who tell them, but the one who show the way.
One good man teaches many; men believe what they behold;
One deed of kindness noted is worth forty that are told.
Who stands with men of honor learns to hold his honor dear,
For right living speaks a language which to everyone is clear.
Though an able speaker charms me with his eloquence,
I say, I'd rather see a sermon than hear one any day."
