(Joshua 24:23)
23. "Now then," said Joshua, "throw away the foreign gods that are among you and yield your hearts to the LORD, the God of Israel."
"Know that what the world has to offer you will not last in the end. But what God's has to offer you, will give you eternal life."

We see that Joshua continually exhorts God's people to live holy lives. god's holy people will live unto Him and apart from the world. Joshua demonstrates that our failure to live in holiness can and will have dire consequences.
We do not covet this world's goods. We must understand that things we strive to get for ourselves will seriously weaken our walk with God.
We must be careful to not adopt this world's way of thinking and behavior.
Instead we must hold fast, rather, to God's ways and serve Him wholeheartedly. We must reject and turn away from this world and its ways. And dear friend, be assured that you will thus be free to fully yield your heart to God.
