"Wisdom"
Coffee With Pat Written By: Pat Aman copyright 2006 All rights reserved
As I was preparing the devotions on Proverbs chapter 3 Sunday
Night, God told me to do Proverbs chapter 2 for the next devotion. So lets look
at the following verses together.
"God help me to be quick to listen and slow to speak. That I may hear your voice when you speak. "Pastor Pat Aman (Proverbs 2: 1- 6) 1. My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, 2. turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, 3. and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, 4. and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, 5. then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. 6. For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
In Proverbs the "Preacher" counsels his readers toward godly living. We are to
live with a view to the futility and vanity of a life spent without reference to
God. Much of the energy we spend trying to accomplish various tasks ends up
"sowing to the wind." The life lived in fidelity and integrity is the only one
that has any real meaning.
We are to revere God as the Creator who works everything perfectly after the counsel of His own will. The "Preacher" says that if you know God and seek to live your life before Him in a way that pleases Him, you will be living wisely. Wise living involves learning to assess the relative value of choices one might make. The wise individual chooses those things that have lasting value. Often the wisest choices will to be those that are apparently bet by the world's standards. Believe that everything God does is perfect. Establish your relationship with God while you are young, before the evils of life harden your heart. Seek to please God in all you do. Endeavor to find enjoyment in your work and daily life. Avoid rashness or hastiness. Know that God is never in a hurry. Make no important decisions with an agitated spirit. Determine to obey those who have the rule over you. Believe that you will know how and when to accomplish the assigned task. Conduct a Spirit-filed life. Honor marital fidelity.
Serve the
Lord with all your might. Do not attempt to substitute scholarship for
obedience. Cultivate the fear of the Lord. Recognize that dedication to work as
its own reward is a vain pursuit. Get into work you really enjoy and for which
you can be grateful. Understand that to work so hard that you cannot enjoy the
fruit of labors is foolishness. Beware workaholics! Avoid taking extreme
positions unnecessarily. Learn to accept God's perfect timing. Be quick to
listen and slow to speak. Always have the faith that God's plans for you will
come in God's timing.
