"Lord Is That You?"
Coffee With Pat Written By: Pat Aman copyright 2006 All rights reserved
Well, as I was doing the Kid's devotion tonight, I just started
laughing. I said to myself, "Okay so that is what the Adult Devotion needs to
me on." The Holy Spirit answered plain and in simple words, "Yep"
Then when I opened my Bible, to read the scriptures from the New King James Version, it opened to the exact scriptures that were in the Kid's Devotion. I did not even have to look them up. How about that! (Judges 6: 36-40)NIV 36. Gideon said to God, "If you will save Israel by my hand as you have promised- 37. look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said." 38. And that is what happened. Gideon rose early the next day; he squeezed the fleece and wrung out the dew—a bowlful of water. 39. Then Gideon said to God, "Do not be angry with me. Let me make just one more request. Allow me one more test with the fleece. This time make the fleece dry and the ground covered with dew." 40. That night God did so. Only the fleece was dry; all the ground was covered with dew. "When God Calls, He Equips." Pastor Pat Aman (Judges 6: 36-40) King James Version 36. And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said, 37. Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said. 38. And it was so: for he rose up early on the morrow, and thrust the fleece together, and wringed the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water. 39. And Gideon said unto God, Let not thane anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the fleece; let it now be dry only upon the fleece, and upon all the ground let there be dew. 40. And God did so that night: for it was dry upon the fleece only, and there was dew on all the ground. How many times has God asked you to do something and you all of a sudden need for Him to confirm it? You know, grab your Bible and say, "Now God, if this is true and it is really what you want me to do, my Bible will just fall open to a scripture to confirm it." Now do tell me you have not done that! I will have to remind you, that you may need to repeat. Ha Ha Now Gideon did not request the sign of the fleece to determine God's will but to gain deepened assurance. Through divine revelation, he already knew that he was appointed to deliver Israel. He wanted confirmation of the Lord's presence and power to enable him to accomplish the task. The fulfillment of Gideon's second request is more miraculous then the first. Normally, the wool fleece would have absorbed water more readily than beaten earth of the threshing floor. To have dry on the fleece only with dew on the ground, would indeed be supernatural. the Lord was patient with Gideon and provided the assurance that he needed. Thank God he is also patience with us. I know that I have at more than one time ask God for assurance. In the these chapters of Judges God show the necessity of trusting God's presence and divine resources rather than our own. Even those talents and abilities we have from birth are corrupted by sin and must be energized by the Holy Spirit to bear fruit for God. Believe that God strengthens those He calls and commissions. Trust in the promise of His abiding presence. Heed God's warning: Do not continue to rely upon your fleshly wisdom and ability lest God limit you to those resources rather than releasing His wisdom and power through you. Wisdom is knowing how to apply what you know to be true. Therefore, wisdom demands that you ascertain the Lord's direction and leadings for your life. also, Judges warns against assuming that all leading are true. Self-righteousness and religious sentiment can be a source of serious deception. Test and confirm any sense of divine leading. Refuse to move impulsively Be certain of God's direction; it results in greater confidence. Know that God reject any idolatry, regardless how religious or sincere one's sentiment may be . Be wary of religious deception.
