Devotion 3
"Making God's Presence A Priorty In Your Life"
Coffee With Pat As we read the scriptures below we see that Martha had opened her home to Jesus. She did a lot of work for him and to prepare for him. Martha became distracted by all the preparations that she thought had to be done. Then we see Mary, who was happy just to set at the feet of Jesus and listen to His teachings. We also see that when Martha fussed about it, that Jesus corrected her. He told her she was worried about things that were not important at this time and place. In other words He thank her for doing all that cooking, but then told her it was not necessary. He told her that Mary had chosen the better, and that was just to have a personal relationship with Jesus. To sit with him daily and talk to Him, and not to worry about the work that had to be done. (Luke 10: 38-42) 38. As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. 40. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!" 41."Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, 42.but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." Jesus presents devotion as a matter of the heart. He contrasts sincere, heartfelt devotion with the external, hypocritical, pretentious practices of piety among the Pharisees. He warns us, His disciples against allowing even genuine good works to distract from wholehearted devotion to Him. Devotion is a matter of developing an intimate relationship with the living God, learning the warmth of a life that draws near to His Fathers heart. So we must avoid setting the Lord's work as a priority over the Lord's Presence. We need to prefer "Mary's place," learning at the feet of Jesus Himself, but serve like Martha whom He commended. "God I want my priority to be setting in You Presence everyday. I do not want to put Your work, before Your Precious Presence."Pastor Pat Aman We must practice patient, persistent, and persevering prayer. And also know that only total love for God can empower you to love rightly yourself and your neighbor. Until we learn as Mary did, to set first at the feet of Jesus, the work we do will mean nothing to Him. Now He will appreciate what we do, but He will be sadden that we did not first chose to make being in His Presence a priority over His work. And I will also say, that if make God's work a priority in your life, and forget to make His Presence a priority, He will take things into His hands to slow you down, so you will remember who gave you the ability to do those works. So today, make the decision to set before God, and let Him groom, make and mold you for the work ahead.
