"Direction and Leadership In A Family"
Coffee With Pat This Sunday we got up to go to church and ended up praying and asking God for direction in our life. Even though we did not go to church today, I feel God was glorified, because we were seeking him together as a couple. Working things out as a couple reminds me of my parents. They were married 65 years when daddy went home to be with the Lord. If you ask any of my brothers and sisters, they will tell you we never heard them fuss or argue. We asked mama about that after daddy went to his heavenly home. She said they did have their disagreements, but they did them in private. They never went to bed mad at each other. They settled things before they closed their eyes to sleep. They were wonderful parents and raised us kids to love the Lord Jesus with all our heart and soul. Daddy was in Civil Service, he worked on Airplanes and helicopters, so we moved often. Daddy would always go ahead and find a house and a church. When we arrived, we did not worry about the church, because we knew daddy had made sure they were a Bible believing church. They raised six children. Ruby, R.A., Frances, James, William and yes, me, Pat. James has gone to be with the Lord, but he was a active deacon in his church. R.A. is a deacon and teaches Sunday School. Ruby teaches and also preaches at the age of 73. Frances is also doing work in church, William has been a preacher since I believe the late 60's, he is 12 years older then me. I was saved when I was five years old and gave my life to God at the age of ten to do his work as a minister. I was always very active in the church. On Sunday nights at Cusseta Baptist Church, when I teacher did not show up, I would teach the class. I am talking about the Juniors 10, 11, and 12 year olds. I also sung in the choir (Ha Ha some of you have heard me sing.), I also taught Sunday School, Training Union, was Sunday School Supertindent, President of the Louisiana Youth for Christ, G.A. Director and Youth Director, Lay Mission Worker and many more doors the Lord opend for me to fill, so He could prepare me for His work. When God called me to do His work, he gave me these scriptures below at the age of 10. I was always reading them and not only them but all of the Bible. I remember as a Baptist reading about the gifts of the spirit and asking my daddy about them. He would say Pat whatever is in God's Word is true. You just believe and God will give you all the gifts you need. I remember mama saying to go out side and play on Sunday afternoons, but I loved to read the Bible. Please read the passages below, and remember God never gives up on you. Man might, but when God calls you, He stands on His calling. Stand fast and God will direct and guide you. 2 Timothy 3:14-16 14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 2 Timothy 2:15 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 1:5-7 5 when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also. 6 Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Luke 4:18-19 18 “ The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”
